Acting president to look after PTF affairs

ISLAMABAD: The president of the Pakistan Tennis Federation on Thursday was elected for the United Nation`s peacekeeping assignment  the police chief for Sudan, thus leaving the country for almost six months, leaving the current assignment for an acting president, has learnt from a senior tennis federation official.
Kaleem Imam was elected as the PTF president few months back.“A former military sports official Brig (r) Saleem Nawaz will likely to be next acting president while a second leading nominee along with him is senior vice-president Irshad Bhatti,” a tennis official close to ongoing developments told .

He said both Nawaz and Irshad were strong contenders for the post of acting president.
Former military official Brig Nawaz has served as the head of Army`s sports wing for several years and is rated as an intelligent sports leader among his peers.

The official said that Irshad has also been rated as a strong contender for the post of acting PTF president against Brig Nawaz mainly for his pro-active role recently witnessed by several tennis critiques specifically for the development of tennis.“Posting of Imam may send the current PTF general council in turbulence as his absence may lead to several issues in upcoming days,” hinted the official, who requested anonymity.
When approached, the spokesman for the PTF insisted: “The matter will be decided in the council`s meeting which is all set to be held on Friday.”Asked whether the next acting president would be Brig Nawaz, he claimed: “I don`t know but the matter will be resolved with consensus.”
The PTF spokesman, added: “All the PTF development projects will remain in progress specifically the federation will be sponsoring leading players to get training from tennis academies located in Turkey and India.”

He said that summer tennis academy would commence from next month and modalities were already decided with the sponsors i.e. Wapda and other institutions.
