LAHORE: There was no change in the decade-long supremacy in the national athletics scenario as Pakistan Army retained their men’s title while Wapda kept the crown in women’s events as the 43rd National Athletics Championships ended at the Punjab Stadium on Thursday.
Army claimed 14 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals to claim 372 points to remain on top in the men’s section, followed by Wapda whose athletes seized five golds, nine silver and seven bronze medals to total 249 points. The Pakistan Air Force remained third on the points table with two gold, two silver and five bronze medals giving them 103 points.
In the women’s category, Wapda reigned supreme securing 19 gold medals out of 20 at stake. Wapda’s women also grabbed 14 silver and four bronze medals to take their points tally to 449 to seal the first position. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) with 83 points took the second place while Punjab (74 points) remained third.
