LAHORE: Wapda with three gold, two silver and as many bronze medals are leading the points table in women’s category in the 43rd National athletics championships which started at the Punjab Stadium on Tuesday.
Pakistan Air Force with one gold are the leaders in men’s category.
In the women’s category, defending champions Wapda proved its supremacy by winning all the three events of the day.
First, Zeenat Parveen of Wapda won the gold medal in shot put with a distance of 13.76 metres throw followed by Salma Bibi of Army who settled with silver and Nazia Kausar of Wapda winning the bronze.
In high jump, Samia Sehr jumped 1.57 metre high to win second gold medal for Wapda.
Her team-mate Shazia claimed silver while Sadia Iqbal of Punjab snatched bronze medal.
In the third event, Wapda’s Bilqees Hashmi won pole vault with 2.30 metre.
Sidra Bashir of Army claimed the silver while Nasreen Akhtar of Wapda seized bronze medal.
In men’s event, Pakistan Air Force’s Imran Yasin threw the javelin to a distance of 67.52m to notch up gold medal, followed by Irfan Hussain of Wapda and Sanaullah of Army.
